We make our confections by hand, the same way we did in the 1940s. Our handcrafted chocolates are made using only the finest ingredients to maximize freshness and quality. Our candy cooking process, started by our founders Don and Katy Kilwin, has remained mostly the same over the years, including our Sugar Land chocolate store.
One of our favorite examples of our ongoing dedication to the art of desserts is our Mackinac Island Fudge. Mackinac Island Fudge came to the national stage in the 1940s in Michigan. Bakers in Michigan poured the hot fudge from the copper kettles onto cool marble, pulling and pushing the fudge by hand until it cooled into perfect, creamy slices. You can find Mackinac Island Fudge at our Sugar Land chocolate store in classic chocolate and several other flavors, including new ones throughout the year.
We take a similar approach to making caramel apples (from Granny Smith apples coated in copper kettle-made caramel), Heritage chocolates, TUTTLE™ nut caramels, various brittles, and more. Ever since we first opened our doors in 1947, we’ve worked hard to cultivate a friendly, warm atmosphere. At Kilwins, we are famous for our classic Americana atmosphere. That work starts with our candy cooks at the main kitchen in Petoskey, MI, and extends to our newest hire at each location. Everyone at the Kilwins Sugar Land chocolate store is ready and waiting to make your day just that little bit sweeter.
While we’ve expanded in size and modernized some of our equipment, we use many of the same tools and machines used to make the very first batches of chocolate in 1947. We believe our commitment to such a classic style is one of the main factors keeping us so successful for so long. Capturing that nostalgic taste and feel of chocolate is important to us, and our customers seem to agree.
Our Sugar Land chocolate store is in the Sugar Land Town Square, a massive outdoor center with options for shopping, eating, entertainment, and more. As we’ve grown, we wanted to explore new avenues to share our love of sweet and delicious treats. In 1985, we started selling ice cream at Kilwins, and we are confident that no other scoop in the world can come close to comparing.
Just like with our chocolates and Mackinac Island Fudge, we start by gathering the best ingredients available. We work with local and family farms to source the ingredients used to make our premium base. From there, we mix in only the best inclusions to make the amazing flavors our Sugar Land ice cream store is famous for.

Over time, we’ve steadily expanded the flavors we have available throughout the year, and we’re constantly trying out new flavor combinations to roll out or release as limited-time specials. Part of what it takes to make and sell the best ice cream you can find anywhere is ensuring that it gets from our kitchen in Petoskey, MI, to our Kilwins locations across the country. In order to guarantee that our deliveries reach each store in pristine condition, our ice cream is kept in customized tubs. The ice cream then travels to our Sugar Land ice cream store in temperature-controlled trucks that we own and operate ourselves.
