We are known for our handmade Mackinac Island Fudge and Original Recipe Ice Cream and a wide assortment of chocolates, truffles, caramel apples, caramel corn, and more.
We make everything by hand, from our caramels to our Mackinac Island Fudge and nearly everything you see in our Ocean Springs chocolate store. We use techniques and recipes from the 1940s, like our old-fashioned copper kettles used to make caramel and the cool marble countertops we use to make our Mackinac Island Fudge.

Kilwins was founded in 1947 by Don and Katy Kilwin, whose love for chocolate and candy-making allowed them to open their first store. Business grew over the years, and more items were added to the Kilwins menu, like our Original Recipe Ice Cream. What started as a small chocolate shop eventually blossomed into the Kilwins we know today. Our menu has evolved, but we’re still committed to the candy-making techniques and values that make Kilwins a household name.
At Kilwins, we live by three main principles: Treat others the way you want to be treated, do your best, and have fun. These are what push us to become the best version of ourselves. Perhaps the best marker of success is our customers — as long as we can make our customers happy with quality products, that’s what matters most.
Don and Katy Kilwin never stopped making new products and recipes and continued to dream. Today, we strive to do the same, making every batch of dessert better than the last. The best part is that we love what we do. Kilwins aims to spread that same joy and positivity to everyone, whether returning customers or first-timers. At our family business, everyone who walks in through our doors becomes our family, too.
To make our incredible menu, our ingredients must be equally incredible. The Kilwins magic starts with finding the right cocoa beans. For instance, our dark chocolate is made from cocoa beans sourced from the Dominican Republic and Peru. These beans are roasted and ground, which helps give our chocolate its legendary taste and texture.
Our beans go through a process called conching, which helps bring out its natural textures. We add other ingredients like cocoa butter, sugar, milk, and vanilla to give it even more sweetness. The final product is our very own Heritage chocolate that is FairTrade Certified, Kosher-certified, and loved by our customers.
We’re also known for our well-renowned Original Recipe Ice Cream. Since 1985, we have developed amazing flavors to cool you off on a warm day. Our ice cream is unlike any other you’ve ever had; we make it using first-class ingredients, including milk and dairy from local farmers. Kilwins isn’t your typical ice cream parlor. Our ice cream is made with the finest cream and milk from local family farms. We trust and collaborate with these farms to give us a solid foundation, resulting in our iconic ice cream.
To maintain our ice cream’s freshness and temperature, we send our batches to you in our exclusively-owned climate-controlled trucks. Once it reaches our Ocean Springs ice cream store, our ice cream is at a perfect temperature, consistency, and taste, ready for a waffle cone (or waffle bowl).
