Creating some of the best sweet confections anywhere in America has been our goal since the first day Don and Kay Kilwin opened the first Kilwins location in 1947. What started as a single location has grown over the years. We’re excited for the opportunity to share our delicious chocolates, fudges, toffees, and ice creams with people across the country.
As we call more states home, we’ve worked hard to expand our culinary creations as well. Each new product we roll out is made with the same care and commitment as our very first chocolate. To this day, some are even made using the same recipes and cooking tools that Don and Katy first used in their kitchen. You can see old-fashioned cooking techniques like making caramel sauce for our caramel apples and ice cream topping in an old-fashioned copper kettle. Then, watch us make fudge by pouring the hot fudge from a copper kettle onto cool marble as our team pushes and pulls it as it cools and is cut into the slices we know and love.

One of our core beliefs here at Kilwins is to create a store environment that brings a nostalgic Americana feel to life. We want to give our customers the chance to taste what it was like to step into a Mid-Century chocolate shop, just like our very first customers did in 1947. So much of this feel is achieved by combining warm and friendly service with a gleaming store stocked full of classic favorites (and the new treats we add to our menu).
We made our name making and selling chocolates, but we’ve grown into so much more at our Uptown Columbus ice cream store. Our biggest expansion came in 1985 when we first started selling ice cream. Like our chocolates and fudge, we only use the best ingredients to make our cold confections. We partner with local and family farms to get the ingredients to make our premium base. From there, we add delicious inclusions like Kilwins chocolates, caramel, fresh fruits, nuts, and more.
While we started with a few flavors, we’ve massively increased the flavors we sell year-round at our Uptown Columbus ice cream store. Our chefs continue to innovate and experiment with limited-time and holiday-themed flavors for you to enjoy.

As part of our ongoing commitment to quality, we take special care every step of the process, from the initial creation of the ice cream to the shipping across the country. We pack our ice cream in our own custom ice cream tubs designed to help protect and maintain its consistency. We also have a fleet of temperature-controlled trucks that we use to ship our ice cream to each of our locations across the United States.
