Welcome to Kilwins! Our family-owned shop is run in the tradition of Don and Katy Kilwin, legendary 1940s candy-makers. They believed in doing the best they could, treating others well, and having fun. That’s exactly what we strive for at our Beaufort chocolate store. Our confections are unmatched in quality, and our service is amongst the friendliest in the whole Southeast.
Much like our historic Beaufort building has been turned into a modern candy shop, our sweets are made using a mix of classic techniques and modern ingredients. Old-fashioned copper kettles like the ones we use in-store have been part of candy-making since the 1940s.
We craft our chocolates, fudge, and ice cream using traditional recipes that have been perfected for decades. Many of our goodies are made in-store, often right in front of our customers. Treat yourself to freshly-cooled fudge or a caramel apple dipped in melted chocolate that afternoon. Our Beaufort chocolate store is located on Bay Street in Beaufort, our idyllic beach town on Beaufort Inlet, a channel that connects to the Atlantic Ocean. Located in the historic downtown area of Beaufort, our shop sits along the waterfront. Our faithfully refurbished building is nestled amongst local retail shops and restaurants. Take your ice cream out as you shop, or enjoy it on a bench at the quaint Beaufort Riverfront Park.

Kilwins ice cream has been made using an original recipe since 1985. Starting with a few core ingredients like local dairy and high-quality sugar, all our ice creams begin with our classic silky, creamy base. From there, we add in different ingredients and mix-ins to create unique flavors. Think of things like fresh fruit, chopped nuts, pieces of our signature chocolates, and caramels—if you can name it, we likely make it.

We’re well-known for our Mackinac Island Fudge, cooked in the traditional Michigan style using copper kettles and marble slabs. This hand-paddled fudge is made in our store. Some other popular choices include our melt-in-your-mouth rich chocolate truffles, caramel popcorn, and crunchy nut brittle. Little ones love our fresh marshmallows, especially if the marshmallows are dipped in our signature chocolate.
We love to celebrate holidays and seasons at Kilwins. We offer many seasonal items throughout the year, from holiday-themed chocolates to elaborate gift baskets. We decorate our store for the seasons, too. We serve limited-edition ice cream flavors each season. New flavors are introduced often, so come by to see what seasonal items we have this month.
