Take a break from your daily routine at Kilwins. At Kilwins, we have something for everyone. When people walk through our doors, they notice we’re not an ordinary candy shop — we offer a full confectionery experience. Our friendly staff gives everyone a warm welcome, and behind our candy counters, you’ll see our talented confectioners hand-paddling our delicious Mackinac Island Fudge and dipping our coveted “Perfect” caramel apples (with caramel made by hand in a copper kettle).
If you’re craving chocolate, you might like our delightful Heritage chocolate truffles and TUTTLE™ nut caramels. If you love complex flavors, you might like our various chocolate-dipped treats. Our chocolate-covered cookies, pretzels, marshmallows, and fruits are all made right here in our Apex chocolate store.
For instance, our Heritage chocolate is made using the original Kilwins recipe from 1947. Our caramel is also made using our founders’ original recipe, and we still drop it by hand in our 80-year-old copper kettles. Even our creamy Mackinac Island Fudge is made by hand and shaped on marble countertops, just like it has been for the past 80 years.
Located in the historic Sellars Building, our Apex chocolate store is situated in the heart of Downtown Apex and is conveniently close to local shopping and community parks. With such a front-and-center location, it’s a breeze to stop in and indulge in a quick treat.
When Kilwins was founded in 1947, we didn’t plan to be as big as we are or a national favorite. Back when our founders opened the first store in Petoskey, MI, their goals were simple: to perfect their chocolate recipe and spread joy among their friends and neighbors.
Nowadays, while our community is larger than ever before, our values remain the same—making chocolates by hand and with love. We’re proud to report our founders succeeded in both of their goals, and most of the delicious sweets available at our Apex chocolate store are made using their original recipes and processes.

Our ice cream tastes as good as it looks! Just like our rich Heritage chocolate and caramel, our Original Recipe Ice Cream draws on our time-tested recipe and high-quality ingredients. With a wide variety of classic flavors and a selection of premium toppings, our ice cream is the ultimate customizable treat.
As the name suggests, our Original Recipe Ice Cream is made with the same recipe we’ve used since 1985, which is when we first introduced this chilly treat. Since then, we’ve expanded our menu. Now, our Apex chocolate store features our Original Recipe Ice Cream in flavors featuring chocolate, vanilla, Mackinac Island Fudge, and fruit flavors. If you can dream it up, we have probably had it on the menu.
Although our selection of classic and limited-edition flavors is quite impressive, the real key to our ice cream’s superior texture and flavor is the ingredients. Our ice cream base is made from fresh cream sourced from local, family-owned farms. Most of the mixed-in ingredients we use are made in our own kitchens, too. That way, we can guarantee the highest quality.
Our commitment to perfection goes beyond the recipe. Once the ice cream is mixed, we pour it into our custom-made ice cream tubs designed to protect its rich flavors and creamy textures. Then, we transport it to our Apex ice cream store using temperature-controlled vans staffed by our own ice cream experts.
Additionally, all of our ice cream flavors are 100 percent Kosher-certified. If you’re not sure which flavor to start with, ask one of our team members if you can sample a few of them!
Whether you choose one flavor or decide to combine a couple, you can customize a treat even more with our selection of premium toppings. Finish building your creation by adding a freshly made waffle cone, and you’ll have a treat that’ll keep you coming back for more.
There are plenty of ice cream parlors in our area, but we’re the only place you’ll find Kilwins’s delightfully smooth Original Recipe Ice Cream. Our ice cream is lovingly made with fresh cream sourced from local, family-owned farms, and every flavor is Kosher-certified.
Plus, we control every step of the process, from production to transportation. The transportation stage is where many brands lose quality, especially if their ice cream thaws and refreezes. Our drivers pay close attention to the temperature of our transport vans so the quality is never compromised.
Kilwins started as a chocolate store, and chocolates are still at the heart of what we do today. At our Apex chocolate store, you can find chocolates in classic milk, dark, and white varieties.
We make truffles, creams, and caramels, which are all made with our 1947 Heritage chocolate. You can also find handmade, chocolate-dipped goodies, such as pretzels, marshmallows, nut clusters, and cookies.
